Looking for something a little bit different?

Contemporary art is hard to define. There have been many heated debates as to what it actually is and it seems that a consensus has yet to be reached. For some artists, contemporary art is about pushing the limits - making a political statement, producing something obscene or offensive, or presenting something controversial in order to challenge our way of thinking.

For me, contemporary art is about sharing my thoughts, my memories and my dreams. I like to use vivid, glorious colours and paint happy things. I often draw inspiration from my childhood memories. Many of my pieces include insects and other small creatures. This is because when I was young I would spend hour after hour in the garden hunting for lizards, bugs, spiders, butterflies and anything else I could find.

The dragonfly at right, Golden Wings, is an exciting mix of colour and texture. The texture on the body and wings was achieved by applying thick layers of gesso to the canvas with a palette knife. The colour is a metallic copper which gives added dimension and real sparkle.

The Emily series are charged with iridescent paint which gives a luminous, shimmering look. I like to combine these paints with rich, deep, hues so that the finished painting is infused with vibrant colour.

My contemporary pieces tell an unspoken story about my journey in life so far. I hope that you will find in them your own stories and your own memories.
